About Renew Child and Youth Homes

Care Built Around Children, Youth, and the People Supporting Them

Renew Child and Youth Homes (RCYH) was created to support children, youth, families, caregivers, and placing agencies during times when care needs to be personal, coordinated, and connected to the child’s needs.

Our work grows out of Renew’s broader experience supporting children, youth, and families through complex family circumstances, supervised parenting time, therapeutic services, individualized child and youth support, and agency-based work. Across these services, we have seen how much the details matter: the way a child is greeted, how transitions are handled, how staff respond during hard moments, and whether the adults around the child are working from the same plan.

RCYH brings this approach into a small-setting, home-style residential care model in Durham Region, while Renew’s broader services extend across our service areas in Ottawa, Pickering, Vaughan, Mississauga, and St. Catharines. Through these locations, children, youth, families, caregivers, and agencies can access related supports such as respite support, individualized 1:1 child and youth support, and clinical services. Each service is different, but the focus is the same: understanding the child or youth in front of us and providing support that is practical, responsive, and connected to the people and plans around them.

Our Approach and Partnerships

Our Approach

Children and youth often need more than a placement, a program, or a scheduled session. They need adults who notice what helps and who can respond with calm and sensitivity when the day becomes difficult.

At RCYH, we pay close attention to everyday moments: mornings, meals, school routines, family contact, appointments, transitions, activities, hard emotions, quiet time, and trying again after something has gone wrong. These moments shape how children and youth experience care.

Our approach is guided by relationship, routine, safety, and planning. We work to create environments where children and youth can build trust, develop skills, feel known, and move through each day with support that fits their needs.

How We Work With Others

Care is strongest when the adults around a child or youth are communicating well.

RCYH works with placing agencies, caregivers, families, clinicians, schools, cultural supports, community partners, and other members of the care team where appropriate. We aim to understand the goals already in place and help connect those goals to what is happening in daily life.

This may include supporting a Plan of Care, safety plan, transition plan, family contact plan, sibling connection, school routine, respite plan, or individualized 1:1 support arrangement.
